Driving with License Suspended

"This program saved my life! I had no idea how I was going to get out of a mess I made for myself 4 years prior when I lost of license from not paying tickets nor how I was going to come up with the money to fix it. I went 5 years with no license and no hope. Once I found the DLS program that all changed. I was able to restore my license and make affordable payments towards my tickets and with a car I am finally able to work."

The DLS (Driving with License Suspended) Diversion program works to restore people’s privilege to drive by helping people to determine requirements for driver relicensing and by providing alternative affordable means to satisfy those requirements whenever possible.

Many people without a way to travel to work or medical appointments, etc. continue to drive and thereby rack up additional violations – these lead to further license suspensions, more fines owed to the State, and increased risk of a criminal DLS citation.  Over the years, the Vermont Legislature, Judiciary and Department of Motor Vehicles(DMV) – with input from Diversion programs and others – have developed various strategies to address the ongoing DLS problem
