Life Skills and Health Education

"Our PREP classes address critical issues in young people’ lives in a way that is practical, honest, and experiential. Teens are given a chance to actually practice many tools that they need in order to keep themselves safe in both physical and emotional ways. They learn the skill of saying “no” before they learn about birth control methods and STIs so they really have the ability to stay safe."

Youth Services uses the Personal Responsibility and Education Program (PREP) curriculum with high-risk youth to provide evidenced-based, effective, and comprehensive sexuality and reproductive health education on abstinence and contraception to reduce the risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).  PREP curriculum also provides program participants with training on three adult preparation topics: adolescent development, healthy life skills and healthy relationships. Staff teach the curriculum in area schools during the school day as well as during Youth Services’ Drop-in Program when open.
